Sweet Jesus, that was an intense chapter....

Soul Society is Big Brother now? It is a smart system...ngl but pretty creepy. Ginjou could be pulling an Aizen like Ishida thought.

All in all, I'm starting to get really excited about this arc! Finally!

That colorspread was cute, glad to see SS updated their phones and she has the cutest skin for it! D'awwww!

glad to see SS updated their phones

To iPhones no less. Sheesh. At first glance I thought it was an android phone but the calendar icon in the bottom right is clearly iCal.

yes im that nerdy when it comes to mobile phones

Wow, that is the most evil thing I've ever heard. Hollowizing people, mutating shinigami into hollows, creepy science experiments, using one's "daughter" as an experiment, that weird creepy impregnating Nemu incident, genocide of Quincies etc... --

No, no, Ukitake has shown that he is the true king of evil, by giving Ichigo a badge that functions almost identically to the ones that Hitsugaya and company had with them to seal their powers when they came to earth + a really crappy two-way spying device.

LOL yeah, the flower thingy restrictions for them to not use full force in the World of the living or could hurt the population that Renji, Matsumoto and Hitsu got while fighting the Arrancar. Evil, EVIL Ukitake :P . Ginjou is just so FULL OF SHIT >.>.

Ukitake revelations! I am about 10X more interested in this story now!

Pretty intense build up until Ichigo has enough and explodes in front of such mindfuckery. Very well done Sensei! Can't wait for next week's now o_O . I'm sure Urahara will shed some light on the matter and the whole truth will be in the open. Ishida and his ominous "The real bad thing will be if neither of those are the truth" ... Ichigo, kick Ginjou's ass!
Phoenix Hawk's Deep Corefmphoenixhawk on November 23rd, 2011 12:33 am (UTC)
Well, I have to say I did not see this one coming. I figured the badge was a tracking device, and a suppression device, but it has other uses. I wonder how it insta-kills people? Do I believe Ginjou? No. He's too full of shit to believe now. I think Ichigo's had enough of it too, but I expect Ginjou will somehow break out the exact same move. I wonder if his Hollow mask will be the same as Ichigo's.
Mekoumekou on November 23rd, 2011 12:34 am (UTC)
This is how I see it.

Everything he's said about the badge and what it's true purpose is for makes sense. I don't think that what Ginjou is saying is a lie, but it maybe be his own interpretion of the truth. He obviously has some kind of grudge against SS so he's taking the facts and interpreting them to make SS seem like they're the bad guys. Because in his eyes that's what they are.

If that same information was given to Ichigo by anyone else, like Ukitake himself, it might not be presented in the same way. But it's being presented in this way for a reason, and I for one can't wait to see what gets revealed from here on in. Whether SS and/or Ukitake are 'the real bad guys' or not, the speculation is really exciting!
xmylasia on November 23rd, 2011 12:52 am (UTC)
I hope Ichigo Bankai's the hell out of Ginjou in the next chapter.
I'm getting so tired of him and his (fail) mindfuckery. Excited to see what Urahara has to say though!
Running on Coffee and Schadenfreudearcadiasilver on November 23rd, 2011 12:55 am (UTC)
Pretty much just nodding along with everyone else here re: If Ginjou spins these facts any harder he's going to reverse the earth's rotation. Ginjou missed his life's calling of being a press coordinator.

Things that I do want to point out:

- This might explain what Rukia was talking about when Ichigo heard her though the badge. Working theory is that she was being briefed on Ginjou's past and she was rejecting the worry that Ichigo would do the same.

- Page Seven: Ichigo, did you actually learn a lesson from Aizen's and Tsukishima;s mindfuckery? Did you honestly finally not fall to someones (admittedly sloppy) mind games? Thank god, I suppose third time's the charm here.

- Page Eighteen: Noting that Rukia and Ikkaku are not in the panels here. Knowledge about the badge was probably restricted to the Captain/Vice-captain ranks at the time.

Thank goodness Rukia isn't included there. I cannot deal with anymore Ichigo-Rukia drama, Kubo.

So the badge keeps his shinigami power under control in the living world. One word for that?

Remember what happened after Ichigo took a swipe at a Menos? And what would have happened if Ishida hadn't redirected all that crazy out-of-control energy? Yeah. GOOD.

Ginjou's obviously got a guilty conscience if he thinks Ukitake was conspiring to do terrible things to Ichigo by giving him the badge in the first place.
nehalenianehalenia on November 23rd, 2011 05:24 am (UTC)
Since Ginjou is a gold-plated self-centered bastard, I'll wager he thinks Ichigo will react the same way he did upon finding out about the badge: go rogue and turn against SS. He's a good manipulator, but I don't think he's as smart as he thinks he is.
(Anonymous) on November 23rd, 2011 02:28 am (UTC)
Sigh... of course the badge is some kind of device. It does detect nearby hollows after all, so it's somewhat like those cellphones shinigami use. And Ichigo being observed though the badge? Big deal. I think the SPY-BACTERIAS Mayuri put inside Ishida is more creepy.

I'm so glad Ishida is here. He's calling on Ginjou's bullshit and so am I. Ginjou's overexaggerating and twisting the facts to spin more lies. I bet the last panel is just Ichigo going bankai to shut Ginjou up.
Free Speech is not simply an Idea.cat_mcdougall on November 23rd, 2011 04:32 am (UTC)
Okay, like I said to a friend on AIM:

A few theories poking around my head -

1) Yes, the badge is a monitoring and suppression device. This is imminently practical and makes sense if you think about the fact that Ichigo is a taichou level shinigami and has bankai.
2) Taichous/fukutaichous are monitored and limited in the Mortal World, why wouldn't someone like Ichigo also be?
3) They gave the duty to Ukitake for several reasons:
- a) He's kind. Anyone he executed, it would be a swift, merciful death.
- b) He's not reactionary. If he went out to kill someone, it would need doing. See point a).

Now onto Ishida:

1) I wonder if he didn't have something to do with Ichigo getting his powers back. He lost his for a time and was bereft without them. Immediately after they were returned to him, he went into the fight in Hueco Mundo. He knows what Ichigo is going through right now and may be trying to get Ichigo to think rather than react.
2) I also wonder if perhaps he hasn't forgiven the shinigami (after all, he and Renji formed a bromance, and he made that dress for Rukia) but maybe understands that there might be a place for the Quincys and the shinigami in the world.
3) Perhaps his yelling at Ichigo is the beginning formation of another Isshin/Ryuuken relationship? Ryuuken genuinely seems to care not only for Uryuu, but also for Isshin. Uryuu might be maturing and seeing that all shinigami are not Kurotsuchi Mayuri.

So. fucking. boring.

Wow. They were observing you the whole time Kurosaki Ichigo. AREN'T YOU SHOCKED AND OUTRAGED?! Fuck this noise. I'd go bankai too and kill this stupid fodder piece of shit. I'm so disappointed in this "revelation" that I want someone to fire Kubo.

"Ichigo, they're leaving you here to die!"

I need a fucking drink.

Yeah, I'm going to go with my initial reaction. Ginjou is telling the truth but with a lot of negative spin.

Actually I'm going to go one step further and guess that this was the... if not good, least bad, option that was suggested by Ukitake as a compromise rather than just a) killing them outright (proposed by Yamamoto and Soi Fon) or b) handing them over to Mayuri (proposed by... Mayuri and no one else).

So let's hear it for Ukitake once again being the voice of reason and compassion in the Gotei 13.
