New ROOKiEZ is PUNK'D CD cover

warning: shipping

The new CD cover for the ROOKiEZ is PUNK'D song for the anime ED that had IchiRuki fans heats a-thumping amuses me. It's a predictably IchiRuki cover alright buuuuut ... well, look:

The ED was the talk of the fandom--shippy stuffs in Bleach usually are. ( #4 most discussed vid in film/animation Japan and other YouTube stats)

I do wonder if Hime's presence there isn't a deliberate ship tease. No doubt some parts of fandom may read that Ichigo may be looking at Rukia but his heart and the song belong to Orihime XD while the majority will read the cover to read like the famous 4chan post:

Meanwhile, Valentine's Day is coming up--think that Sensei will give it a nod? Last year we got that pretty spread of the boys and their chocolates. The year before last we got Rukia's dewy-eyed "beauty of the heart" color page. The official release date for the next chapter in Japan is Feb 14 and so far there's no announcement of a Bleach color page, only that a new manga will have the lead color page, but I'm so hoping for a glimpse of Orihime hard at work making chocolates for the customers in her shoppe! Or do you think we'll get a Riruka love page? XD

Finally, a couple days ago Sensei retweeted a very cute tweet in which a sixth grader (in an earlier post I'd mistakenly identified her as six yrs old) made put in a question to an advice columnist about how to confess. There was a long answer in whichshe was told that she should know what love is before she confesses. Her love was compared to the feeling she has toward favorite foods or the feeling of sunshine.

Anyway, I do think it's interesting that Sensei seems to be considering the nature of love lately. XD As a perennial shipper, it gives me hope for squee material. I found it interesting that Ichigo seemed to realize that he wasn't "in love" with his Shinigami badge, merely "fond" of it--while Riruka, given her girly penchant for LOOOOVING things (and wanting to be "crushed to death," lol, by them) made them into minatures. Surely Ichigo feels more seriously about his Shinigami identity than Riruka feels about his "hotness!" Maybe this is a commentary on how girls can discount and trivialize something as serious as love. If so... *looks at dolly collection and goes ouch* Maybe there's more to Riruka. After all there's more to me than my dolly collection! *glances at Ishida-lookalike hubby* XD

ETA: Shippiness continues. <3 More about the CD from the IR FC at BA. Translation by melodymix  from infos on the site:

ROOKiEZ is PUNK'Dの新曲は、初のラブソング。ただ一人の女性を守るために、もがき叫ぶ男の心境をストレートに表 現した感動の一曲に仕上がっている。 ROOKiEZ is PUNK'D's new song is their first love song ever. The song has been completed into a very emotional piece about a man who is struggling and screaming his emotions out in a very straightforward manner, in order to protect one woman.

...

Am I the only one who thinks that Orihime is there because the image continues, flipped inside the cover? I expect all the nakama there, actually.

lol, actually I do too. I just find it an amusing cover choice.

This was what I was thinking too :>

I agree, the image is continued. It has to be. It's kinda weird looking otherwise. I expect Uryuu and Chad are on the other side.

Same. When I looked at the cover I thought to myself "Chad and Ishida must be on the other side" XD

The Bleach single CD covers usually don't work like that though. Maybe this will be an exception - especially since the CD single covers usually aren't Bleach related (usually the Bleach bonuses are inserts and not covers) - but even if the nakama are there, it doesn't change the fact that the cover is focused on Ichigo and Rukia looking at one another and not anyone else. The song's openly been stated to be a love song (even says it in the lyrics), and the ED animation was Ichigo/Rukia, so the CD cover being Ichigo/Rukia fits with that theme. That's why, IMO, having the nakama be present would be irrelevant, so I don't really see the need for the picture to continue.

No nakama on the other side makes the CD cover more damning/friendzoning for poor Hime ... and would disappoint me because I want Ishida so I'm just going to hope there's another side.

There's not another cover, I'm hearing, with the nakama. There are two covers for the single and one features the singer and one is the one you see in the OP above. So... yeah unless there's a wrap-around.

Yeah, yeah, I get that the focus is on IchiRuki...

P.S.

I don't know whether this "Bleach single CD covers" case exists here, but if it does, then this cover is retarded. OK, the focus in on Ichigo and Rukia, but why is Orihime there? It could be anyone.

And no, "to show that Orihime will always be a FRIEND to Ichigo!!" is not an answer. Official artwork should be focused on something else than trying to prove one ship legitimate and another non-legitimate (unlegitimate? no-legitimage? legitimateless?).

My first thought when saw a cover was to show nakama are there with Ichigo and Rukia but they aren't a focus (something like calendar 2010). If it's Ishida or Chad, how are they supposed to be shown without showing their face?

Well, at least that's my thought without even think of ship being legit.

Official artwork should be focused on something else than trying to prove one ship legitimate and another non-legitimate (unlegitimate? no-legitimage? legitimateless?)

But official artwork has and always will be ship-teasing. Which is why if there's no other side to this artwork, this cover is a really bad bad ship-tease.

It's really irrelevant whether official artwork should be focused on something or another. As Debbie said, there's been plenty of artwork and merchandise that already focuses on a particular set of characters or a particular "pairing." For example of official manga artwork, see Kubo's 2010 calendar cover/January image (Ichigo and Rukia in white, lying on the ground, with nakama shoes around them) and the 2011 calendar picture (Ichigo and Rukia together, alone, in a resort setting).

The anime ship-teases all the time, too (yes, there's been Ichigo/Orihime merchandise). Since Ichigo/Rukia and Ichigo/Orihime are mutually exclusive - unless Kubo goes with a harem, I guess - focusing on one pairing means the other pairing is going to be considered 'shafted' or whatever, at least for that piece of merchandise. Anyway, anime merchandise doesn't "prove" anything, much less the legitimacy of one pairing over the other.

I don't think this picture is focused on singling out Orihime and laughing at how she's friend-zoned. As Annie said, my first impression was that Ichigo and Rukia are with the nakama, but the focus is on the two of them. Orihime's simply the easiest nakama to show without actually showing her face or much of her body - because her hair is long and a particular color, it's an easy giveaway ("oh, it's Orihime, and she's running off in front of Ichigo and Rukia, presumably to catch up with Ishida and Chad who are probably there also"), as opposed to Chad and Ishida, who have short hair and not many distinguishing features with their school uniforms on (other than Chad being tall? Maybe). Then again, Kubo has done to Orihime what this anime picture's done in the manga itself, so who knows.
