Little Tweetstorm

There seems to have been a minor craziness in fandom yesterday over some of Kubo's tweets and the concern that he had just found out about scanlations or early spoilers and people were afraid that Kubo was going to block foreigners' access to the Bleach manga before the translated volumes came out in their respective countries.

False alarm.

First this post from Zangetsu01 at Bleach Asylum should reassure everyone of some basic facts about how spoilers work in Japan and abroad.

Second, lennan  translated the tweets in question. It seems that Kubo was concerned about foreigners on his twitter giving out spoilers about a chapter yet to be released in Japan as they were conversing with him. He blocked those tweeters.

The tweets go from most recent first:

とりあえずこの件に関してはこれで終 了ってことでお願いします。このままだと今朝までの返信欄が全部流れちゃう(笑)。
(For now, in relation to this matter, please end it like it is. As it is, the wall of replies all will flow until this morning (laughs).)

(It’s blocked! Although it was done, there seems to still be a way to read it, due also to being aware of breaches of etiquette. Thanks everyone for all the information.)

(No, there are foreign kids who write about Jump before its sale date, if other people can see that, then I thought let’s block those kids’ blogs….)

(This is a question for everyone: would people who send me messages through twitter, not read the messages other people send me?)

eta from lennan:

And for good measure, since I missed this one:

まあ、マナー違反する人はID変えてまた書くかもしれないけど、それはそれってことで。
こういうのって個別に対応するしかないのかね。
(Well, the rude people will probably change their ID and write again, but that's that. Things like this they are probably only dealt with individually.)

I had a bit of trouble with that last sentence, I think he means by in a case by case basis, but I don't really seeing this in the same batch as the other two on my twitter feed. He's not so gung-ho about shutting down scans as much as spammers, I think.

eta from debbie: as for the quote "Kubo is angry" that some people have been seeing quoted along with a translation of a tweet, those words were a comment added to the tweet by someone on 2ch--maybe the same person who was doing the lame troll job spamming Kubo about spoiler sites. Kubo himself never said that he was angry.

Aww sensei doesn't want his fans being spoiled before they have a chance to read his manga.

*sniffs*

Well, as far as we know given the context of these translations. When lennan did them, I was YEAH, I KNEW HE WAS TALKING ABOUT BLOCKING ON TWITTER. Unless we're missing some translations ( and that could be) I don't see anything about an angry Kubo. It's VERY unlike him to display anger in public so I was pretty upset when I heard the rumors.

You're a doll, Lennan. Thank you for your translations.

I think what he's talking about is that even though you can block people from your twitter account, these people can still read your account if it's public like his is.

I'm not at all twitter knowlegable but methinks Kubo-sensei may be confused about how people can access what others are writing him. Only if he answers do the other peoples' posts appear in his log thing or whatever.

*shrugs*

In any event, I don't see KUBO THREATENING to sic Shueisha after THE SCANLATORS with pitchforks! XD People can chill. XD I think the Nick Simmons thing has everyone jumpy. XD

"To all European, American, Asian, and all other countries BLEACH fans. Sorry, I can't speak engrish. but I hope you'll enjoy my tweet."

I don't know why, but when I read this I just went "awwwwwww". My Japanese is at like, a 2nd grade level, so I'm pretty lost when it comes to reading his twitter; I'm always kinda giddy when I read that someone translated one of his tweets because it reminds me that Kubo is not some invisible all-knowing being who patrols the streets at night fighting crime-- or is he? -- but, you know, he's HUMAN. I know, it shocked me too. <_<;

Another English tweet from Kubo,

# tite_kubo
I didn't know I got fans in Africa. I am very sorry about this and am so glad that I have fans in Africa!

which followed after this particular tweet:

# tite_kubo

@kenyanryoka u forgot about us,ure #africanbleachfans.pliz mention us in ure next tweet.

My rough translation of the above: "Wah, sorry! I didn't know there were also fans from Africa! ..Um, how should I reply to this in English."

Kubo is seriously adorable. :)

Once his twitter became big news, I knew it was only a matter of time before people started being idiots. Good to see he's blocking them.
