chapter 395: The Burnout Inferno 3
Out from the people at MangaStream right here.

Loved this chapter. It's always a joy to see smug!Aizen become Surpraizen. Liked the last 3 pages especially. Maybe Ichigo will do something useful.

Then again, maybe not. Already want the next chapter.
_debbiechan__debbiechan_ on March 11th, 2010 09:23 am (UTC)

If Ichigo saves the old man, that's enough. <3 But I can tell he's already got the fail written all over him. And what about Gin? Is this his cue to step in?

Watch Kubo-sensei go "and meanwhile at the dome...." LOL

I'm going to say on a personal note that YES, AIZEN IS TALKING ABOUT THE INHERENT NATURE OF HOLLOWS. Love it~

Also, Yamajii really is skilled. Nice to see him do stuff rather than talk about executing people.

"Single blade cremation" -- who named THAT kidou? Sounds like something Yamajii would come up with.

Aaaand I maintain that Ichigo looks like a flying squirrel.

He does look a bit like a squirrel there.

I saw that bit where Aizen was talking about the basic nature of Hollows and I thought of you. ;) When I read that, though, my brain immediately pinged with 'This is Important as regards Ulquiorra!' because even if that's all Hollows basically are (tho I suspect that's all Aizen *thinks* they are), Orihime giving Ulquiorra a heart changes that for him.

In one of lennan's translations of Kubo's tweets, he was answering a fan's question about his poetry and confirmed that he writes them to express something about the volumes they go with. I think if you take Ch 353 and 354 "The Ash/The Heart" and add the "I lust for everything about you" poem and then add this opinion from Aizen... well, to me it points to this story not being done with Ulquiorra yet. ;)

If you view the Arrancar and Espada as evolved Hollows, Aizen's assessment of Hollow's 'fishing about for souls to eat' could well evolve into the desire not just to heat human souls but to become human, or at least to seek out the human heart/have the desire to become (return to being?) human. If you think about how many idioms eating and loving share, e.g. 'I hunger for your love', 'I could just eat you up', etc. it makes sense. (Well, at least it does to me.)

I really like this chapter. Not only do we get action, explosions, and Yama being pretty awesome, but we get SurprAizen, and a whole lot of info from the guy. Not bad, not bad.

Ah, Ky, I was actually up when the chapter came out and posted alongside you. Anyway, here's what I said:

The image of Wonder cracking up like a clay pot was pretty awful and not at all ameliorated by Yama-jii observing something about the little feller having no feelings. The old man was fairly splendid in this chapter and that made me convinced he was going to die--someone tell me quick--is his zanpakutou still sealed forever? That can't be the case, right? Not with Orihime about. Everything's going to be okay. We still haven't seen the old man's ban kai--his and Kenpachi's and Urahara's--these are why we will all still be reading this manga with our grandchildren, right?

Oh dear, I've waited longer for each of my children to gestate and be born than I've waited to get back to the dome. I have a feeling that will happen soon because what better time to switch away from an Aizen and Ichigo fight? I remember that Kubo-sensei managed to have a good part of the Ichigo and Ulqui fight, the very first part, happen off-camera.

Next week there's a color page. Hope that it's sexy girls.

Oh and speaking of the inherent nature of Hollow, I'm on MSN with Neha and we're wondering if Ulquiorra and his new heart can prove Aizen wrong.

Damn, this chapter has some FINE EXPLOSIONS.

Someone needs to wipe that smug look from Aizen's face, even if only for one chapter... am I the only one who's getting sick and tired of "suprizen! WHAM! fooled ya all!"?

I miss Rukia, not to mention I want to see all of the awsome rest - Isshin, Byakuya & Kenpachi, Yoruichi...!*sighs with frustration*

I swear Kubo, you'll be the death of me...!

The one thing that got me the most was that look of utter pity on Yamamoto's face here. This is the guy that didn't even show an ounce of remorse when executing a young girl that was one of his own soldiers. But he shows pity for an opponent, an almost grandfatherly remorse.

It confuses the hell out of me, but its an interesting contrast to Aizen's accusations that Yamamoto is inhumane. Oy.
kohi_no_torakohi_no_tora on March 11th, 2010 11:09 am (UTC)
Wild speculation (okay not that wild) but perhaps the reason he pities Woderweiss is because WW didn't have a choice. Rukia, Ukitake and Kyouraku chose their own courses of action, and thus chose the consequences. WW is pitiable because he didn't even have that.

Of course its entirely possible that the discovery that his own sense of justice was used against him by Aizen's manipulations has shaken as well.

Good chapter, it's always nice to see that smug look be wipped out of Aizen's face. And yay for Ichigo doing something! Even if he's going to fail...poor thing.

I feel sad for Wonderwyce(?), really want some back story for him.

...and where is Gin?
mikados on March 11th, 2010 12:32 pm (UTC)
Let there will be explosions! 8D

The chapter was pretty cool; never mess with Yama-jii, he's one hell of a granpa. I just can't believe that no one else of the good guys was caught in the massive fire, someone could have died. And it looks like everything is going according to Aizen's plan, he knew the old man would throw himself at WW, he didn't even hisitate in his theory. Ichigo is nothing to him but maybe we'll have nice battle next week.

Great chapter. If they manage to injure Aizen more I'd feel more or less satisfied until the next arc.

Oh BRAVO Kubo-sensei! What a well done chapter! The pace was great, art was superb, and he did that thing he does where you feel sympathy for EVERY CHARACTER IN THE CHAPTER! Even Aizen wasn't just some mustache twirling villian, but someone who made a real point. One that I've felt Kubo has been hinting at for a long time. And he doesn't give us any indication that Aizen is wrong either.

The action and expression in the last scene is really fabulous. One of his best panels, imo.

Kylarakarenai on March 11th, 2010 05:24 pm (UTC)
I sure as f--k don't. Which is why I go into convulsions of laughter when I see speculation about how "Aizen might not be the last villain of Bleach because he'll lose to Ichigo", etc.

Well, I'll try not to be mean. But my money is on him losing.. and I say that with utmost affection for Ichikins.

Man, Yama-jii is really hard to kill. Somehow just makes me want to see him die even more... >__>

What I liked most about the chapter was Aizen talking about Hollows and taunting Yama-jii about his sense of justice.

One of the things that interests me most in Bleach is where Kubo is going with the Hollows vs. Shinigami dichotomy. The appearance of Arrancars and Vizards already disrupted and stepped over the boundaries of it, and we've seen some Arrancar exhibit a sort of "humanity". The further the manga goes, the greyer the world of Bleach becomes where in the beginning it appeared pretty clear cut black and white.

Ichigo's awesome flying squirrel entrance notwithstanding, I have to put my money on the boy getting his ass kicked pretty soon.

An interesting chapter for all of its foreshadowing and implications about the nature of hollows and how the shinigami react to them... but that's what depresses me a bit, since even though these are the things that make it interesting, 90% of the discussion about the chapter will focus on nothing more than whether or not this finally confirms Aizen is stronger than Yama or not.

Really, considering how hard-lined Yama was toward upholding the rules without exception in the S.S. arc, he's been strangely merciful during the fake KT battles. He spared the Harribel trio in recognition of their valor (yes, I'm aware that one translation house implied that he gave them quick deaths, but that's one that implies he killed them versus three that implies he spared them, so I side with the majority for now.) and expressed relief that WW's release no longer maintained its childish appearance, then, of course there was this week's chapter.

I've always been of the theory that S.S. and the menos almost never encountered one another prior to the events of this arc, a fact which seems to be reinforced by how little information the S.S. had on them beforehand, but it also seems that to them killing the menos is something much more serious than killing the run of the mill hollows who eat humans, which is something toward which they never pay a second thought.

Re: Yama, YES. I also found it strange that he even showed pity toward ALLON, yet he was dead-set on executing Rukia. Maybe we're supposed to be seeing a softer side of him so that if/when he does die, we'll care?

Everyone else has already flailed about the nature of Hollows, so I'll leave the eloquence to them. xD

I know Kubo's always had the "Chapter title #" motif, but if we get another "Burnout Inferno" next week, I'm very inclined to say that whatever happens next will be as pivotal as the Sins/Lust arc. Unless Ichigo instantly fails and Yama-jii is either forced to pull out one more technique or dies, I'm not inclined to say "Burnout Inferno 4" is likely. But again, it all depends on what happens next... I'd like to see the dome again most, but if Ichigo actually does something and succeeds in it, I'll be satisfied.
