Bleach 390: Beyond the Death Understanding
The people at mangastream WIN AGAIN. People are fast!

Aizen chopped Komamura again. This is two times now, poor fuzzy-wuzzy.

Again, now we hear something about the motivations of the Espada:

"Those ridiculous Espada each had their own expectations, but as for why they managed to stay together as one single group... there's only one reason: he's strong."

Mm, Gin. Tell me more... about the motivations of the Espada for uniting under Aizen, that is.

I promised myself I wouldn't touch Bleach for a month. I gave in. So, what did I think of the chapter? I should have left it for a month.

Aizen slicing through Komamura's zanpakutou (name escapes my mind) reminds me of Byakuya cutting through Ichigo's, all the way at the beginning.
Also, Aizen? Strong? Who would have thought?!/sarcasm. I guess that's the only way he could have remained the biggest threat ever to Soul Society for the past... year.
And... Hitsugaya's 'I'll forfeit my title' business sent shivers down my spine a little. Of course, I've always wondered - what exactly is his primary motivation for killing Aizen? Is it for him, or does he become so emotional because Hinamori was hurt so much (emotionally, mentally and physically) by Aizen's betrayal?

Yay for mangastream!
I'm so glad to see Gin again even if he's there just so say what was already obvious: Aizen is strooooonnnggggeeerrr than yooouuuuu! (and HOT...he is VERY handsome is this chapter). Also, I'm sorry for Komamura but I guess there's no need to worry about him at least for now(Unohana is there).
The whole chapter discourse is awesome as always but I'm getting a little impatient. There's no way that right now any of them can defeat Aizen...Well, maybe Yamamoto could and I think Urahara could too but they are not intervening and Aizen has to win anyway for the sake of the future plot...So, please Kubo let Aizen win now and let's come back to HM! I want to see what's happening there! (and I miss Ishida...) :)

Just kinda think that Aizen looks spectacularly awesome in some panels.

I'm just gonna stand here and generally get all teary-eyed about poor, brave Komamura. Poor, poor Komamura.

Also it looks like Aizen broke through Tengen, but not Tengumaru... wonder if Love was just lucky or if he was quicker to retreat. That aside this chapter is at least more interesting than the previous chapters where Aizen owned everyone with words. This time he's doing so with ACTIONS, which is good because I have yet to buy Kubo's writing of Aizen as anything but an annoying smarmy know-it-all, so whenever he shuts up and just lets his actions do the talking, I find him bearable.

As for the Espada's motivations... yeah, I don't think there's a big chance of Gin talking more about those. I honestly doubt he CARED that much about them to begin with, since as far as he's concerned all that matters is the bottom-line: Aizen is a God-mod and the Espada thought that if they hung with the god-mod they'd at least die more noble deaths than as mere cannon fodder.

Those poor, poor saps.

Aizen strong? Thats gotta be the lamest line ever. We already knew he was strong *eye roll* . I guess kubo didnt want us thinking that aizen's only power was suigetsu, but I think we already knew that :P.

I hate to say this and while he's certainly a lovely person, Komamura kind of.... sucks as an actual fighter.... He needs a real victory worthy of a captain's level.

Interesting that (at least in the beginning of the chapter) Gin isn't lecturing the attackers so much as he is making observations to himself. And interesting still how much emphasis he puts on the necessity of caution and carefulness (I love anything that gives me further character insight into Gin). I still suspect that Kira may confront him soon.

I have a feeling Gin is hiding something...

"Gin isn't lecturing the attackers so much as he is making observations to himself"--yes! THIS! There's no one around listening to him, he has no audience save for the reader...which makes me think that he's really not on Aizen's side.
Your observation that he's emphasizing the necessity of caution and carefulness makes me think that KT has something big planned for Gin, and it's not going to be him leaping into the fray on AIZEN'S side. Just my humble opinion, but I simply am getting a feeling (and have been, even despite him slicing Hiyroi in half) that Gin is not the traitor that everyone thinks he is. Just my opinion and gut feeling though...

It was a cool chapter. I liked seeing Aizen in action. Even though he's so hax they'll bring him down somehow before it's all over. Too bad.
mikados on January 28th, 2010 02:42 pm (UTC)
I would say if Gin wanted to participate then he would only fight one of the time, whereas Aizen can take on 4-5 captains. I think he's waiting to jump in later, only for his own entertainment. Aizen doesn't bother if Gin is there or not.

Komamura's bankai is a huge disadvantage when it gets wounded, I think he should work on his defences even more than strengh alone.

I was hoping for better teamwork from the vizards. Rose is already down and I don't understand why he and Love didn't use masks or bankai. Shinji and Lisa better do something amazing next!

Actually if you go through the official profiles, Komamura maxes out both offensive strength and defensive ability. Komamura's problem is that if he does encounter a blow strong enough to get through his defences he lacks the mobility to dodge it.
karkashan: Ulquiorra Transformedkarkashan on January 28th, 2010 03:07 pm (UTC)
I feel like the chapter basically was Kubo saying:

"Okay, so you knew Aizen was a badass. Well now you know he's beyond Samuel Jackson in terms of badassery."

The more chapters we go through, the more it makes sense for Aizen to have thrown away his Espada right there at the end. There's really no need for them, but it just goes to show how much of a manipulator he is that he put all that stuff into motion first.
balladbirdballadbird on January 28th, 2010 03:21 pm (UTC)
While this chapter wasn't "Bad" in any way, it's the sort of spectacle I have a hard time being patient with. Yeah, I guess it needed to finally be said, rather than inferred, that Aizen was strong, but these last three chapters of "Aizen > you" have a hard time being appealing to me for three reasons, but the biggest of the lot is this one: Bleach has to continue for two storyarcs after the resolution of this battle.

Since we can safely assume that Aizen will remain the big bad until the end (because, let's face it, how the heck do you TOP a guy who is essentially the most broken character this side of DBZ?), and since it's obvious that, for all his godly power, Aizen won't manage to kill ANYONE, it means that this entire encounter is pointless. It feels like some sort of cameo, or an exhibition match, more than any kind of climactic showdown.

I'm curious to know how this arc is supposed to stretch on for five more months. Surely Kubo isn't such a sadist as to subject the audience to 19 more chapters of Aizen v. everyone?

The only thing about that made my heart dance about the chapter was the Espada being mentioned in passing, even if it was derogatory. I miss those guys.
hinodehhinodeh on January 28th, 2010 03:44 pm (UTC)
You have a way with words, Ballad.
That being said, I can only agree. Let's make a laundry list of stuff that needs to be shown:

-Yammy being defeated
-Aizen pwning everyone and leaving plus any plot twist that is connected to that

Stuff that might be added in for padding:

-Kensei vs WW
-Gin vs ?

Ack, is that all that's gonna happen till summer? D:

I miss them too. Heck, everyone does. See, Kubo, that's the problem when you put in too-awesome calefares.

Personally, I get a feeling this fight little Chat with Aizen Corner is gonna go on for a long, long while. Kubo likes to do preaching. But if that must happen, then I'm hoping for at least some more good perspectives on this whole thing before it gets wrapped up...maybe more thoughts from Gin?

And just a thought: Is Hitsugaya's childlike side starting to show? Cos he's getting desperate, impatient, to defeat Aizen, staking everything for a slim chance at victory. True that the others helped him, but nobody's gone as berserk as Hitsu. Just a thought, again.

infiniteviking: 7infiniteviking on January 28th, 2010 05:44 pm (UTC)
I was wondering that about Hitsugaya too. My RP muse for him is very confused by this chapter. The whole "I'd give up my captaincy to kill you" thing, and right afterwards "I never meant this to be one on one", i.e. he doesn't care who kills Aizen as long as it's done? It's like he's shifting between a childlike disregard for the consequences and the genius tactician he's advertised as. Is this for Hinamori, or because Aizen made idiots out of Soul Society, or to save the world, or what? *so confused*

"I'm actually kind of disappointed that Gin wasn't standing there, steaming cup of tea in hand and monologuing."

Haha, for some reason you gave me the mental image of Gin doing a Jay Leno impersonation...

Gin: *in brooklyn accent* Did you hear this? This was in the news today, this is true: so, it looks like Hitsugaya has a really big axe to grind with Aizen... Yeah, it's true... So, it looks like if someone sticks their sword in his girlfriend, he tries to stick them right back! *drum roll* err... play me off, Kevin...

Okay, does anyone else feel Aizen is just too pretty hax? Right now I am having a hard time digesting the fact that he successfully hid his zanpaktou’s true ability, extensive kidou skillz, and the ridiculously high level of reiatsu necessary to pwn all of these captains at once. I can deal with the zanpaktou and kidou sly-ness, but the reiatsu?! It is not like you just wake up one day having crazy high reiatsu, right? He had to go through shinigami academy didn’t he? Wouldn’t the other captains know this?

-_- I’m not sure why this is bothering me so much . . . It makes me want Aizen backstory. I haven’t really desired Aizen backstory before . . .
Kylara: rukia fade to blackkarenai on January 28th, 2010 10:53 pm (UTC)
I'm not saying you're wrong for feeling that Aizen is too hax. This is a chapter meant to demonstrate exactly that, after all. However, as for his supah-high-reiatsu, my guess is that like with everything else, Aizen has just been hiding it for ages and ages.

This page clearly takes place before Aizen's official betrayal of Soul Society.

He's the kind of guy who as his reiatsu grew, he made it a priority to control it and only present respectable levels to the rest of SS. If the other captains sense a very high reiatsu - he still is one of theirs, so there's no reason to fuss. So he can go off and overtake Hueco Mundo and come back and nobody says a thing.

when I read the chapter it was about 4 in the morning. I had to sleep before forming any opinion about it, haha. But it ended up not being as bad as I thought it would be when I read the spoilers; the actual chapter is always better, hehe.

Komamura was growing on me, really. And now he's also part of the armless cast of Bleach. And even after such things, I can't hate Aizen - can't he be any more awesome?

And... is it just me or hitsugaya does have too many "special moves"? o.o
_debbiechan_: Aizen cruel but awesome by heterogen_debbiechan_ on January 28th, 2010 11:23 pm (UTC)

I'm not annoyed with Shiro-chan's ability to not get chopped down as I usually am because I'm rather enjoying his lost of temper at the moment--last week I was wondering if it was genuine and if he wasn't trying to set Aizen up for something but this almost ... childish display is likable and I don't know why.
This is the Hitsugaya who was so eager to fight Aizen that he got into a shouting match with Hiyori and made himself apologize--this is the raw genius who hasn't met his potential yet... I like it.

Aizen's just ... I dunno... terrible in a dreamy sort of way. <3 I can't hate him either. I mean, he just chopped down my Koma-chan and here I am not caring as much as I thought I would. Hah, it might take him hurting Ishida for me to hate him, LOL.
