Sidetext translation by Cezaria: The season's mischiefs that drench the sky, put it to a stop for a while.
Thanks Spacecat for the translation too!
Uryuu means Rain Dragon and it's totally fitting that this is the color pic for Tanabata. It's not a sexy spread but it's a totally beautiful one. It's so Ishida Uryuu. It's so ... refuge in books and knowledge. I love it.
And I love Kubo-sensei for drawing it.
The personal story with this picture and me is that, as some of you know, I've been having a very hard year with family illnesses. There's been overwhelming bad luck, a broken toe, a critically sick daughter, a husband near hospitalization, and the usual stresses of homeschooling and parenting two special needs kids. My father moved away, a dog died, fandom brats harrassed me, and a few weeks ago a friend of mine asked Kubo-sensei if he would draw an Ishida for me to cheer me up. Kubo-sensei said the drawing was done that morning. He laughingly sent along his best wishes to me and said the picture would appear near the end of June and while I tried to keep that a secret, I blabbed, my friend blabbed--because our excitement just could not contain itself. When the color page was announced for the issue of 6/29, I thought this was MY ISHIDA but it turned out to be Chad and I was so disappointed. Some people in fandom celebrated and called me a liar because they've always said that my relationship with Kubo is delusional (Okay, I admit--he's not my boyfriend. HAHA XD ). Then there was news of an unprecedented SECOND week in a row color page and it became apparent that maybe this second drawing had been drawn as a request.
Whether it was intended for me or not--and I know that the picture totally fits with the theme of the manga at the moment and speaks within Bleach's universe--it speaks to me. It speaks to my identification with the character of Ishida, my favorite in all manga, a guy who takes refuge in books and an abstract sense of justice. And all the past year while I was waiting for life to cut me a break, I felt like that boy in the drawing, just waiting under a little piece of awning for the storm to pass.
Besides, that I and D on his bookbag? That so TOTALLY STANDS FOR ISHIDA AND DEBBIE, doncha think? XD
