Get the goods right here folks from Sleepy Fans
Looks like there's going to be more gaiden. One more chapter at least--10 chapters should fill up a tankuboun and be a nice place to end the flashbacks, and I hear there's a color spread coming next week. But it seems that there's so much more story left to be told?
The art is SUSPICIOUS.
The slack-jawed Aizen that Shunsui encounters on the balcony may be a projected fancy illusion of Aizen so I can forgive him for being drawn that way, but why is Shunsui himself so wobbly-contoured? He looks at chibi-Nanao with this totally unguarded sweet face so that might be it but....
later in the chapters there are some more wobbly-necked Shinjis. The bottom halves of faces don't look right and one of my artist friends says Kubo didn't draw this chapter.
Anyhoo, the story's good. Fight scenes move fast and I like it when Kubo switches tender story (NANAO-CHAAAAAAAAAAAAN) and throws around little character details (oh, so Shunsui was "over-thinking" things? and Lisa read to Nanao---oh dear Lord, WHAT did she read to her?) and then blam, we have Artichoke Head Tousen (what is it--will Kubo explain why African characters have this unique do?) who was masked for the benefit of the audience (I love how his mask looks like the oxygen cover-all of my current crush, Tatsuo on Psyren) BUT why the heck do ninth division dudes need masks anyway? Why did Tousen?
In any event, it was cool. I love cool unmaskings.
My Shinji love makes me love this chapter finally. How concerned he is for Hiryori (he tells Hutch to tend to her first) and then how pissed he is over Tousen and then Aizen's betrayal.
I love my Visored. I love this Gaiden. Even though it's overkill at this point, the attack of the CUTE CHIBI SHINIGAMI BABIES is love and damn, Gin, every time you show up--I want to take you home and cook you all your favorite dishes.
Maybe I'm the only one not creeped out by Shunsui and his fondness for little Nanao. Maybe because I read The Thorn Birds at an impressionable age. The trope in Western Lit for guy waiting for the little one to grow up doesn't faze me.
