Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
I had NO idea I'd write so much or even that I would still be this obsessed with Bleach. Looking back on how much fic I've written, I'd have to say that fanfic writing was a very important part of my life.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2006?
Hirako and Hiyori was unexpected ( Visored Love ), but the real surprise was Hirako and Ishida ( Reckless Once )
What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Weirdly enough, my dark fic. I didn't think I'd write it, didn't think I post it, didn't think it was all that dark after I DID post it, but the whole emotional ordeal made me feel proud of myself for pushing forward. I like this fic, just because of the descriptions and disturbing symbols. I got Hueco Mundo wrong (it's ice here instead of sand) but I love the ice metaphors for Aizen, Ishida, and Ulquiorra.
Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?
I wrote my first alternate universe continuation and I FINISHED IT.
Invisible Writing People really liked this one and that made me glad. I thought it was sort of frothy and fun, but plot--what an amazing concept. Should try it more often.
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
To quit it with the Corpse Stories XD (funnily enough, I remembered yesterday that my first published story years ago was called "The Corpse Story" and it was about the first time my mother saw a naked man--the corpse in her anatomy class at med school).
I would like to write in other fandoms--maybe Peacemaker Kurogane, Death Note, Princess Tutu (yes, I have a weird obsession with the latter).
From my past year of writing, what was...
I dunno what this one means but from Shini's response on hers, this is what I thought the answer should be... as in "my writing was..."
Prettily written as usual, not enough concerned with movement and actual story, less smut-obsessed than the year before (but not by much).
My Favorite Story:
Didn't I just answer this one? I'm fond of many of my stories but Under Wraps I wrote when the power was out. Wrote a story on actual paper in longhand, and I didn't take it seriously. Subsequently it's got this nice lilt to it that's both drama and comedy--like the manga.
My Best Story:
Easy ! Shun Shun Rikka Does the Math. Lots of voices, humor and tears, characters who have almost no canon reference.
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe:
Not Crying No sex, no yuri as promised but a nice nice little story. There were some other fics that got fewer reviews but that was with good reason--they weren't very good. This one was good.
Anything with Hirako in it. Weeee!
Reckless Once I never had any clue what I wanted to do with the sex in that story. It almost wasn't supposed to happen, but I was writing it for a smut contest (???) so it did. Weirdnesss.
Ishida's Second Choice has some of my most adorable sex in it.
Favorites had some wild yaoi stuff in it.
Story with a Single Sexy Moment:
Eight Hours One Night for the Tatsuki masturbation scene alone.
Hardest to Write:
All of them. Right before I start to write anything, it's like trying to hold onto a baby once contractions have started. If you fight it, it hurts. If you go with it, it doesn't. I do this thing of hurting and letting go both.
Most Unintentionally Telling:
What the heck does this mean? I think my last two stories and my current one yet to be posted show that I have an unusual obsession, one unto a Goth girl's, with Death.
Ever get flamed?
I think three times, but I only remember the Different Pants one because I snapped back at the flamer.
I got some wonderful "best story I ever read" for "Invisible Writing" but just yesterday I got this one for Quincy Legacies that made me cry. It's the Jewish Holocaust thing. Always makes me cry.
I don't cry easily, but I was teary-eyed at the end of this. One of the best things I've ever read online, and so painful and sad but at the same time the goodness and nobility of Souken against the ridiculous, atrocious things being done - I didn't thing you could be that deep with Bleach fanfiction. I didn't think you could preface a story with that quote and not be shallow and tasteless in the light of it, but. Yes. This was tragic and wonderful and very, very true. Thank you for writing it.
Best fanfic writing experience:
Finding an awesome hard-nosed intelligent beta in Finny
Worst fanfic experience
Hmmm, maybe leaving off fanfic to attempt a shipper essay that messed with my mind.
Favorite character to write about
I find Ichigo EXTREMELY hard to write since I do lots of introspective writing and Ichigo's not that self-aware. He's crucial to some of my stories, though, and I love his manga character so I hope I learn to write him well eventually.
