Now... This really makes perfect sense, Ichigo's late stoic expression and his collected stand before Aizen is. Being the most-super-uber powerful with the price of giving up on his powers altogether can only be a sad thing. Ichigo in no way can gloat or be cocky about this fight, he can only be sad T_T

Poor Ichigo, a much as I like his new looks and Aizen's crashing self-esteem, my heart bleeds for him. He will lose his moon. Fortunately, there is a redundant shiny white moon wandering around XD
secila80: Nel ZOMGsecila80 on September 16th, 2010 06:36 am (UTC)
Wow. This is an amazing chapter. The unexpectedness of Ichigo's sacrifice of his shinigami powers in toto is on par with Aizen revealing himself and his grand evil plans. Forgive me, Kubo, I didn't realize until now that I wasn't expecting to be so surprised again. I am a bad fan ;_; Kubo remains an epic genius.

There are so many exciting directions that the story take from here. I'm kind of shocked some are guessing the story is coming to a close. I'm supremely excited to see where Kubo is going with this. If it wasn't for the upcoming movie being about the Hell Realm I'd guess Ichigo's face wrappings have something to do with the skeletons on the Hell Gate from eons ago, but that is such a tiny thing and THERE ARE JUST SO MANY PLACES THIS CAN GO. I'm excited, in case you couldn't tell.

I am concerned for Ichigo and wondering what his attitude is about sacrificing his powers. His character has always sought power in order to protect, so I'm not so sure he would be entirely upset with being powerless after defeating the big baddy (ugh Venom ALWAYS creeped me out and Aiznom is *shudder*). That is until a new threat surfaces so, like, 1.5, maybe 2 pages. Then he'll get all determined to kick butt again.

Okay, I'm rambling now . . .

This chapter was well worth the wait (man, am I glad I don't read spoilers anymore).

Though even if Aizen bites it, and doesn't show up for most of the series, I won't believe he's truly gone until we see an epilogue with Ichigo, Rukia, and their disgustingly cute little family.

But even then, a part of me will think that on the last page, Ichigo's son will turn towards the reader, slick his hair back, smirk, and say "Just as planned".

This chapter was awesome. I don't know what else to say, it was predictable, but so awesome. I really hope Aizen died this time though, and Kubo won't troll us again or something like that -.-
_debbiechan_: Aizen ILLUSION_debbiechan_ on September 16th, 2010 10:29 am (UTC)

Even if Aizen chucks it, there's GOT to be a backstory--we haven't seen the last of him, I'M SURE, in the Isshin gaiden. I'm really sure Aizen's not done for.
rhejis on September 16th, 2010 10:56 am (UTC)
Oohh my god.
As I already said in the thread for Ch. 418:
It's more like he (Ichigo) will loose his powers, which would also explain how Isshin lost his (at least for a while), since he obviously can or could do the Final Getsuga as well.
But still, what would there be left to happen in Bleach if Ichigo lost his power and Aizen was dead?
Which is the case now, apparently.
Though it's obvious that Ichigo must somehow be able to restore his powers - there just can't be a powerless Ichigo for the rest of Bleach! Although I'd admire Kubo for doing that, because that seriously would be something unique to do. Who's ever heard of a Shounen hero to lose all his powers and not regain them in the following chapters?

And as skilly_n_duff said: *Mind goes crazy over the angst fanfics involving her OTP (IchiRuki, I guess.) and Ichigo turning human, unable to see shinigami...*
I'm getting impatient waiting for Rukia to reappear.

Soo. Now what?
Back to HM/FKK, or a time jump? Or something entirely different, like a second TBTP arc?
I wonder.

And one more thing.
That last page - just what is happening right there?
My first impression was that Ichigo transported FK back to its original place in the World of the Living, but reading that "All returns to nothing!" thing in the corner it looks more like Ichigo made some big-ass Getsuga with some special powers and...idk, destroyed Aizen and like half of the world around them.
I'm not really being creative there, I know.

But seriously, I loved this chapter.
All those implications and the name Mugetsu for Ichigo's final form, and the Decide title (Killing off Aizen and Ichigo's Shinigami side -> two gods?) etc. etc.
I could go on rambling forever.
And we got flashbacks and explanations, a sort-of plot twist and Aizen-kill (hopefully). Not counting Ichigo losing his powers there. Could it be any better?

This post is so incoherent, oh my god. And I bet I just repeated what everyone already said anway.
I'll use the enormous amount of awesomeness in this chapter as an excuse for now.

*sits down and impatiently waits for next week*
And sorry for all the grammar mistakes. *cough*
yl_ylyl_yl on September 16th, 2010 10:54 pm (UTC)
Switching back to HM would be extremely anticlimatic wouldn't it?

I'm so puzzled by the last scene as well. I'm dying to know what is happening... but I won't have computer next week! Gah. But this chapter was indeed awesome in many many ways.
rhejis on September 17th, 2010 06:10 pm (UTC)
It sure would be anticlimatic, but knowing Kubo... *shrugs*
Almost anything could happen now.

Yeah, same.
I just hope he'll let us know what the Mugetsu (that's the name of the attack, right?) exactly is.
Chloe-girl: reflectivegrass_angel on September 16th, 2010 02:27 pm (UTC)
Mugetsu just leaves the image of a small 'pipe fox' that likes to molest tickle people it's fond of and transforms into a badass kitsune.
Thank you CLAMP for that mental image. Ichigo is going to tickle Aizen to death. (The way it got its name is really sweet too, you can't see his eyes - thus Mugetsu. Oh Kubo, why can't you have heartwarming backstories behind names like CLAMP?)

But waaaaah, Hollow/Tensa Zangetsu is worried about Ichigo. So touching but they'll never see him again. ;__;

Though the thing about dimensions and Ichigo becoming a sword kind of makes sense. Didn't someone say that no one truly understood how Zanpakuto worked and that if someone did it'd make them really powerful? So since Ichigo is NOW the sword, shouldn't that mean he truly understands how it works? Either that, or because he doesn't truly know himself it's going to fail.

(Anonymous) on September 16th, 2010 03:35 pm (UTC)
Did anyone catch the parallel image of Ichigo getting stabbed through the chest and learning something? Gosh golly gee NOW WHERE HAVE WE SEEN THAT BEFORE.....

Look at the pictures in ch1 of IchiRuki standing from a distance during this scene - the parallel images are striking.

Also, we can only assume that Isshin lost his powers this way - SO WHO WAS ISSHIN FIGHTING THAT HE NEEDED TO USE THIS TECHNIQUE?
(Anonymous) on September 16th, 2010 04:46 pm (UTC)

I'm going to make a crazy prediction now and see if I'm right later-- The King of Soul Society is insane and is locked away for the protection of Soul Society. Captain that attain a higher power level are assigned to 'Squad 0', whose task is to make sure he stays locked up. The King was the one Isshin tangled with back in the day.

And, like I thought, there was zero reason to replace Zangetsu with TZ (aside from appealing the fangirls' eyes). Man, I hate TZ. Such a shame it wasn't the old Zangetsu; I'd much rather see a tough nut like him being sad than Ichigo's inner loser boy.

Anyway, two things ruin Ichigo's development this chapter for me:

One, I can't believe for a second that Ichigo is making a real sacrifice; Ishida already gave up his powers and got them back, and Isshin presumably did as well. Let's not forget that Ichigo lost his Shinigami powers before and got them back already. Since Kubo says there will be at least one more arc and since Ichigo will still be the main character, and because Bleach wouldn't be Bleach without fighting, Ichigo's going to need to get his powers back so he can fight. Kubo's treading over old ground here.

My second problem needs only one word: mullet. Goddammit, Kubo, stop with the fucking mullets! I can't get over how stupid they look. Kubo missed a great opportunity to assert Ichigo's superiority over Aizen--had Ichigo not copied Aizen's decision to grow the worst hairstyle ever, we'd know for sure which of the two was better.

Aside from that, I'm saddened by Aizen's continued degeneration into a caricature. He looks sillier ever chapter, not scarier, and his angry outbursts are embarrassingly cliche ("Impossible! You can't be stronger than me!" Yeah, so said every other villain ever, dude). Why isn't Aizen trying to make Ichigo look at his sword? Why is he this stupid? It doesn't make sense. Some people talked about Ichigo not being himself a few chapters ago, but Aizen has been far less recognizable as himself. He used his intellect to fool all of Soul Society, and I can't believe his transformation into a butterfly could possibly sap all the neurons out of his brain, such that he never thinks to use his greatest attack (absolute hypnosis) on Ichigo. I'm desperately hoping Kubo doesn't sidestep the greatest difficulty Aizen presents to Ichigo because that'd be a lot worse than any number of goofy-looking mullets he can draw.
_debbiechan_: aizen bitch please_debbiechan_ on September 16th, 2010 09:17 pm (UTC)

I'm loving this chapter but I have to admit the Aizen downgrade from clever clever poetic sexy villain to shouting out of control buggy-gross monster so quickly hasn't pleased me. I keep thinking Aizen will escape though.

The mullet thing is just one of Sensei's weird fetishes--like the arm amputations.
Adam Epp: Metal Gear Solid 3adam_epp on September 17th, 2010 05:37 am (UTC)
Mullet man in the icon
Arm amputations are all right. They're a standard occurrence in samurai duels.

But the mullets? They seem like a joke, and I keep on laughing whenever Kubo draws another one. Humour is fine, except I don't think these mullet scenes are intended to be funny.
yl_ylyl_yl on September 16th, 2010 11:15 pm (UTC)
I don't think anyone believes Ichigo is really making a sacrifice. Actually, I didn't realise that when he said losing his shinigami powers he was losing it, as in poof, no more powers. I just thought he'll be something else entirely. But well, shounen hero has to regain his powers somehow. Isshin did.

Aizen actually reminds me of Venom (Spiderman) now. Aizen going into a psychotic break causes his IQ to drop tremendously. And he practically denounced his shinigami powers, using it wouldn't come to mind. And I actually would imagine that performing the hypnosis would require some boring ritual that would take too much time to perform. And of course, he would rather spend all his time blabbering away about how great he is.

Man, I hate TZ.

I must admit that I found TZ cute, despite his unnecessary randomness. Though Zangetsu is still one hundred times better.

But this... amalgamation of Zangetsu, TZ and Shirosaki? Yeah, not liking it at all. Boring character design, boring personality (Shiro's attitude and aggressiveness, in particular, seems to be completely non-existent), boring interactions with Ichigo... sigh.

Maybe once Ichigo gets his powers back, Kubo will use that excuse to go back to the original Zangetsu? *vaguely hopeful*

Some people talked about Ichigo not being himself a few chapters ago, but Aizen has been far less recognizable as himself.

Quoting myself from the IchiRuki FC here:

I'm... really not satisfied with Aizen's character at the moment.

And thus with the battle.

And I say this as someone who actually LIKES the trope of the enemy falling prey to his own lust for power, and losing his cool at the end of the fight once he realizes that he isn't in control of the situation anymore...

Fact is, Aizen has been losing it too quickly. There was no gradual chipping away at his facade of invulnerability as he slowly realized that his beloved omnipotence was all in his own mind. Ichigo just... came back, Aizen lost his cool at the first blow, and he STILL hasn't attempted to really fight back - either with his bankai or with the Hougyoku's powers.

This is... not very satisfying for me, to be perfectly honest.
(Anonymous) on September 16th, 2010 08:17 pm (UTC)
Oh the angst! the delicious parallels and moonless connotations, pretty Aizen and maybe a future "How Ichigo got his groove back arc" I luv sensei..at least this week, and probably the next one.
(Anonymous) on September 16th, 2010 11:51 pm (UTC)
Ichigo lost his powers once; he'll get them back again, I'm sure. What I'm more interested in is how the next arc plays out.

I hear a lot of talk about how Isshin had to have gotten his powers back somehow after using the Final Getsuga Tenshou; although this may not be the case. Clearly, before Ichigo "transcended" he maintained a Shinigami state.

I'm assuming Isshin went through a similar degree of defeating his inner-self/Zanpakutou, but never actually took the next step which was transcending to a higher level as he knew he would forever lose his Shinigami powers. What I'm saying is...he's never used the Final Getsuga Tenshou. Not to say he doesn't have the capacity to; he just hasn't.

There is a distinct difference between knowing how to do something and actually doing it. I don't think Isshin ever pulled the trigger. Ichigo on the other hand is fighting for something that he feels is worth throwing it all away for.

Unless of course I've skipped over something while reading -- If so, then disregard.

Awesome chapter, the Deicide not referring to Aizen really was pwage.

The err.... Weapon if we can call it such Ichigo has in his right hand after he transforms, maybe its just coincidence (probably) but it reminds me of that item he used to fly when he went to Soul Society to save Rukia, the one he got from Yorouichi.

Also - Does he turn into Zangetsu or Getsuga? Got kind of confused between the translated chapter saying "When I...." "Become Getsuga." and some others saying "he turned into Zangetsu"

I like the long hair come back though, always thought it was cool from when we got a first look at his (new) complete hollow transformation. This looks almost like an upgraded version of that, notice his clothes seem to be ripped off at the same place, like hes bare-chested again....

I'm probably just clinging too literally to the translation but it says "will lose all shinigami powers..... If he can keep his Hollow Mask then he just needs to learn to shoot Ceros and that's a start.... I think? XD

Awesome. Anyone got a time machine? I want to fast forward 6 days ^^
(Anonymous) on September 17th, 2010 04:20 am (UTC)
Re: Awesome
The translation is right he becomes Getsuga(月牙) not Zangetsu(斬月) as it had said in the spoiler translation which is why people have been saying it.
Jennyla_geni on September 17th, 2010 03:08 am (UTC)
Parallels parallels
We fucking called it.

We knew he had to have given up something in order to get something else because we had seen that happen before. But shit, giving up all of his powers? Did that happen to Isshin before?
Questions, questions and more questions and as always TK delivers in the hot male department.
